LRCA Seeks Volunteers for On-Going Programs
Lackawanna River Corridor Association (LRCA) needs you, your family, your co-workers, business employees or anyone you know to adopt an area of the River in your neighborhood or community.
LRCA is working to develop a trail along the entire 40-mile length of the Lackawanna River spanning Forest City, Carbondale, The Mid-Valley, Scranton, The Down Valley to Pittston.
While the trail is not completed yet, there is nearly 20 miles of trail and river bank in Public Ownership, with each one of these sites needing a River Keeper or Trail Tenders to adopt an area of the Lackawanna River and Heritage Trail and care for it. This can be something as easy as walking along a your adopted area of river/trail once every week or so and picking up any litter. Or, getting a few friends together on a weekend in the spring and summer to cut grass and cut back weeds from your section of trail .
Other volunteer opportunities include working with LRCA and adopt a planting bed or install and help maintain native flowers and shrubs at a new planting area that you can help design and manage.
Then, go and enjoy your adopted trail reach or river bank by having a picnic, go fishing, or just relax and watch the river flow by. Call LRCA at (570) 207-7608 or send them an e-mail at lrca@epix.net and they’ll set you up with a piece of the beautiful Lackawanna!
