Lackawanna River Clean Up

Posted by Mike Rock at 2:19 pm in Good Deeds |

At noon on Sunday, April 22, 2007, I went to the banks of the Lackawanna River in the Green Ridge section of Scranton, PA to help clean up a wide assortment of objects that find their way into the river.

This yearly clean up is done by Lackawanna River Corridor Association. There were about 15 volunteers in my group, men and women of all ages who wanted to pitch in and help beautify the Lackawanna River Banks.

As soon as we walked to the river’s edge we knew our time would be well-spent filling the pickup trucks provided with the tires, shopping carts, cushions, sofa, cans, bottles, coolers, lumber, scraps of metal that litered the area.

We all worked well together and did a great job of restoring the area. While I was tired, I felt very good when we finally finished. This is a project I plan on volunteering to do again next year.
